When and why was your group formed?

Formed in 1992 by its current leader Mrs Tims, the award-winning Broadland Youth Choir has sought to provide young singers in and around Norfolk with the opportunity to join together in making enjoyable and quality music. It has now become one of the most highly regarded choirs in Britain.

Have you performed in any other festivals and competitions in your own country?

Broadland Youth Choir has performed on BBC Television's 'Songs of Praise', in 'Evita', the National Finals for Youth in Birmingham, and are regular performers at the Llangollen Eisteddfod. They have also performed in 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' on ten occasions. Most recently the choir took part in Radio Three's 'Choir of the Year' competition, and were named 'Choir of the Day' at their National Selection Stage. They are now awaiting the semi-final.

Give us a short biography of your conductor/leader

Carole Tims GTCL ARCM - Leader/Musical Director. Carole Tims is well known as a singing teacher and choral conductor, having over 30 years' experience both as a solo performer and teacher. A graduate of Trinity College of Music, London, and Associate of the Royal College of Music, she is Musical Director of Broadland Youth Choir, Bel Canto Chamber Choir, and the Eastern Daily Press Festival of Carols. She also coaches choristers in Royal School of Church Music 'Voice for Life' scheme, and is a very experienced and successful voice coach, having had several placed national finalists in the national choirboy/girl competition. She is an experienced teacher of other instruments (piano, violin, recorder and theory), having also gained diplomas in those subjects. Carole has also acted as an examiner with Trinity College, London. Carole is Organist and Choir Director of All Saints Parish Church, Salhouse, Norfolk. Alan Morris FTCL FRSA - Accompanist. Alan Morris received his early training from the late Norman Cutting of Cromer Parish Church. He continued his studies with Dr Alwyn Surplice at Winchester Cathedral and later with Charles Proctor. Alan taught in Hampshire and East Sussex, and was Director of Music at Bethany School, Kent from 1976 to 1997. Alan is Organist and Choirmaster of Sheringham Parish Church, Norfolk.

What do you hope to achieve at Llangollen?

We are looking forward to this fantastic opportunity to perform in an international festival and to achieving our very best in the competition. We are looking forward to watching and listening to the other choirs from all over the world and learning from all the experiences the Eisteddfod has to offer.

What are the group's future plans and ambitions?

On their return from Llangollen on Friday, the choir will be performing in Bill Kenwright's tour of 'Whistle down the Wind' in Norwich. They will also perform in the semi-final of Radio 3's 'Choir of the Year' competition. Later in the year they will be performing in their eleventh run of 'Joseph'.
