Have you performed in any other festivals and competitions in your own country?

a) in your own country We have never competed before, but since 2002 we have been featured at state music conventions twice (Texas Music Educators Association) and twice at national conventions (American Musicological Society in Houston, 2005 and three performances for the American Choral Directors Association convention in Miami, 2007.) We received standing ovations at most of these performances. Further, a blog developed for the ACDA 2007 convention described us as "simply outstanding," and as one of the best three choirs at that very large and very prestigious convention.

Have you performed in any other festivals and competitions in countries other than your own?

This is our first time to perform outside the US! We are all undergraduate singers.

What is the name of your conductor/leader?

Dr. Betsy Cook Weber

Give us a short biography of your conductor/leader

Betsy Cook Weber is an Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music. Her activities there include directing the premiere large ensemble, The Moores School Concert Chorale. Choral ensembles under her direction have been selected for performances at state, regional, and national conventions. Chorale's most recent achievement is an invitation to perform and compete in the famous Llangollen Eistedfodd in Wales, UK July 2009.

Dr. Weber is active internationally as a conductor, clinician, and adjudicator and has conducted and/or adjudicated various all-state and festival choirs in over twenty states, Canada, and Mexico.

Before coming to the University of Houston, Dr. Weber was a successful music teacher in the public schools at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels, She also served seven years as Associate Director of the Houston Symphony Chorus.

Dr. Weber holds degrees from the University of North Texas, Westminster Choir College (Princeton, NJ), and the University of Houston.

Accompanist:

Daryl Robinson is a junior organ major at the University of Houston Moores School of Music. He also serves as Associate Director of Music at South Main Baptist Church in Houston. Mr. Robinson is the winner of a number of organ competitions in and around Texas.

What do you hope to achieve at Llangollen?

We hope to sing well and ably represent our University, city, state, and country. We KNOW that we will be inspired and exhilarated to hear wonderful choirs from all around the world.

What are the group's future plans and ambitions?

We look forward to:

exploring wonderful music daily

improving our level of professionalism in rehearsal and performance

moving audiences
